Nigeria has become the new Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

This was unanimous endorsement by Heads of State and government who attended the 63rd Summit of ECOWAS in Guinea Bissau.

The election of
Nigerian President, Bola Tinubu as the new Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on Sunday, signaled the trust and confidence reposed in him by his counterparts.

Nigerian President Tinubu, is the latest entrant in the club of Heads of State in West Africa.

He accepted the honour, on behalf of Nigeria, with a pledge to carry out the responsibilities of the office and the regional organisation.

The Nigerian President warned that threat to peace in the sub-region had reached an alarming level of terrorism and emerging pattern of military takeover which demands urgent and concerted actions.

He said insecurity and creeping terrorism were stunting the progress and development of the region.

President Tinubu called for collective action from member-states, pledging that under his leadership, frameworks would be harmonized to actualize the dreams of ECOWAS.
