Nigerian Army detains Former soldier selling weapons to terrorists

The Nigerian Army says it apprehended a former soldier in Northeast Bauchi State on suspicion of supplying weapons to Boko Haram members.

The Army joint task force in a report said its troops apprehended the former soldier in Boi, an area situated in the Bogoro Local Government Area (LGA).

The Army did not reveal the identity of the former soldier, but it said preliminary investigation revealed that he had been dismissed from 5 Brigade Damasak.

During the arrest, two pistols, two magazines, and eight rounds of 9 mm ammo were recovered from the former soldier.

“On 18 July 23, troops arrested one suspected gunrunner at Boi in Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State. A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was a dismissed soldier from 5 Bde Damasak. Troops recovered 2 pistols, 2 magazines, and 8 rounds of 9 mm ammo,” part of the report read.

In the report, the army also said that on the same day, its troops arrested two suspected Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province terrorists’ logistic suppliers at Kukareta Mkt. in Damaturu LGA of Northeast Yobe State in another operation.

The Army said two mobile phones and the sum of seven thousand two hundred and sixty-five naira were the recovered among other sundry items.
