The New Nigeria Peoples Party’s (NNPP) Wakili Kabiru-Muhammad has taken INEC to the electoral tribunal over the failure to include the party’s logo in the results of the presidential and national assembly elections on February 25.
Kabiru-Muhammad told reporters soon after submitting his petition on Saturday in Lafia that INEC failed to accurately capture his party’s logo on the ballot papers.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the first and second defendants in the case are INEC and Ahmed Aliyu-Wadada of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, who won the poll.
He claimed that the Electoral Act of 2022 and the 1999 Constitution were violated by INEC’s purported omission.
He therefore requested that the panel void the election.
The petitioner claimed that there were numerous irregularities during the election, so he went to the commission to seek redress.
He gave his followers the go-ahead to maintain their composure, follow the law, and wait for the tribunal’s ruling.
The All Progressive Congress, APC, candidate Shehu Tukur received 47,717 ballots, compared to Aliyu-Wadada of the SDP who received 96,488 votes.
