In a heartfelt address to the nation on Sunday, August 4, 2024, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed deep concern over the violent protests erupting across several states, with a particular focus on the tragic loss of lives in Borno, Jigawa, Kano, and Kaduna. According to the President, the protesters included young Nigerians who desired a better and more progressive country where their dreams, hopes, and personal aspirations would be fulfilled.
President Tinubu called for an immediate suspension of protests, urging organizers to engage in dialogue instead. He emphasized the need for unity among all Nigerians, regardless of age, political affiliation, or ethnicity, to work collaboratively towards a brighter future. According to the President, those exploiting the protests for political gain would be held accountable, asserting that there is no place for ethnic division in the Nigeria he envisions.
Kanempress learnt that the President highlighted his administration’s commitment to economic reform, noting significant strides made over the past 14 months, including a doubling of government revenues and a reduction in debt service costs. He reiterated his tough decisions to remove fuel subsidies and streamline foreign exchange systems, which he described as necessary to reverse decades of economic mismanagement.
In a bid to stimulate growth, Tinubu announced ambitious infrastructure projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing food production, creating jobs, and empowering the youth. He revealed plans to distribute conversion kits for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to commercial vehicles, aiming to reduce transportation costs and curb inflation.
Tinubu reassured Nigerians of his government’s dedication to listening to their concerns and addressing the root causes of unrest. He concluded with a call for collective action towards building a prosperous and united Nigeria, urging citizens to choose hope over fear and progress over stagnation.
As the nation grapples with these challenges, the President’s message underscores a commitment to stability, dialogue, and economic recovery, as he leads efforts to ensure that the benefits of governance reach every citizen.
