The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has made a bold statement, asserting that President Bola Tinubu, or any other candidate, could lose the 2027 presidential election. The party emphasized that political success is not solely reliant on individual brilliance or strategy, but rather a reflection of broader public sentiment and national issues.

Shehu Gabam, the National Chairman of the SDP, highlighted the growing momentum behind his party, revealing that prominent political figures from across Nigeria are joining in large numbers. Notably, former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who recently defected from the ruling APC, is among the high-profile leaders making the switch.

In addition to El-Rufai’s move, Gabam shared that over 300 influential figures, including Senators and Ministers, have resigned from their positions to align with the SDP, signaling a shift in Nigeria’s political landscape. The SDP is clearly focused on challenging for the 2027 presidential election, with Gabam stressing that the current administration has failed to address the core concerns of Nigerians, which could prove costly in the next election.

Gabam expressed strong confidence in the SDP’s chances, stating that Nigeria has a wealth of untapped leadership talent. He emphasized that no individual or party holds a monopoly on delivering quality leadership, and that the Nigerian people will ultimately choose leaders who are capable of meeting their needs and addressing their concerns.

With increasing defections and support from key figures, the SDP is positioning itself as a serious contender in the 2027 presidential race, aiming to capitalize on the dissatisfaction with the current government and present a fresh alternative to voters.
