Taraba State Local Government workers have raised concerns over the delay in their February 2025 salaries, urging the state government to take swift action.

The Bureau for Local Government, Traditions, and Chieftaincy Affairs acknowledged the issue, attributing it to the state’s inability to receive its statutory allocation from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC). In a statement on Monday, the Bureau’s Permanent Secretary, Engineer Godfrey Dame Andrew, reassured workers that the delay was not intentional and that salaries would be paid as soon as the funds were received.

However, the explanation has not eased the frustrations of affected workers across the 16 local government areas of the state. Some employees criticized what they described as the government’s lack of urgency in resolving the matter.

“Why must we always wait for FAAC allocations before receiving our salaries?” one worker lamented. “The state generates revenue internally, yet we suffer while funds are wasted elsewhere.”

Citing Adamawa State’s Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s decision to use internally generated revenue (IGR) to pay salaries, the workers called on Governor Agbu Kefas to consider a similar approach.

With the ongoing Ramadan fast, many affected workers say the delay has worsened their financial struggles. They urge the government to act before the fasting period ends, emphasizing that their families are already feeling the burden.

As pressure mounts, it remains uncertain whether the Taraba State Government will seek alternative funding sources to address the salary backlog or continue waiting for the FAAC disbursement.
