Despite assurances from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the Nigerian government, corps members continue to receive the old N33,000 monthly stipend.
In January, NYSC Director-General Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed announced that the allowance would increase to N77,000, pending the passage of the 2025 budget.
However, as of February, no changes have been implemented, leaving corps members frustrated amid rising living costs.
A corps member serving in Oyo State expressed his disappointment, stating, “How do they expect us to survive on N33,000 when everything is expensive? They told us we would get N77,000 this month, and now they have failed again.”
The government’s failure to fulfill this promise has further eroded trust in the administration, already criticized for economic policies contributing to inflation, unemployment, and poverty.
