UNIMAID Appoints New Vice Chancellor

In a special meeting held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, the Governing Council of the University of Maiduguri approved the appointment of Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele as the substantive Vice Chancellor, effective immediately.
According to an official press release signed by the University’s Registrar, Ahmad A. Lawan, the appointment follows the recommendation of the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board, which interviewed four candidates for the position.
Professor Mele is a distinguished scholar in English Language and Linguistics, with over two decades of dedicated service in teaching, research, and community service at the University. He has held numerous academic and administrative positions, including the immediate past Deputy Vice Chancellor (Central Administration). Prior to this appointment, he served as the Acting Vice Chancellor.
Professor Mele has received numerous awards and distinctions for his outstanding contributions to the field of English Language and Linguistics. He hails from Mafa Local Government Area of Borno and has traveled extensively worldwide.
He is happily married and enjoys reading, mentoring younger professionals, and participating in charity and community activities.
