The Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) is exhilarated to announce the 16th edition of its annual Wole Soyinka Centre Media Lecture Series, a momentous event celebrating the illustrious career and enduring influence of Professor Wole Soyinka, Africa’s first Nobel Laureate in literature and grand patron of the WSCIJ.

This year’s lecture series, themed “The Death of Truth? Realism, Literature, and Journalism in an Age of Disinformation,” promises to be a stimulating exploration of contemporary issues in media and literature.

The event is set for Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 10 AM, and will take place at the Agip Recital Hall, MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos. For those who cannot attend in person, the event will also be accessible online via the link provided below.

The keynote address will be delivered by the distinguished Professor Biodun Jeyifo, Professor Emeritus of English at Cornell University and of Comparative Literature and African and African American Studies at Harvard University. Professor Jeyifo’s extensive expertise and profound insights are sure to set the tone for a day of rich discourse.

Chidi Odinkalu, Professor of Practice in International Human Rights Law at The Fletcher School, Tufts University

Chiamaka Okafor, Co-founder of the Media and Information Literacy and Intercultural Dialogue Foundation (MILAD)

The event will be chaired by Umaru Pate, Professor of Media History and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State.
