Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has announced the government’s intention to collaborate with trade unions and other stakeholders to discuss the Contributory Pension Scheme for state and local government employees.
Mamman Mohammed, Director General of Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, issued a statement detailing the Yobe State Government’s plans to collaborate with trade unions and other stakeholders to discuss the Contributory Pension Scheme for state and local government employees.
Governor Buni emphasized the importance of dialogue in ensuring a mutual understanding of the scheme between the government, labor unions, and civil servants. “It is crucial to create a better understanding, acceptance, and workability of the scheme. A law should also be established to serve as a legal instrument to institutionalize the scheme and ensure consistency,” he stated.
Ms. Omolola Oloworaran, Director General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), highlighted the significance of the visit, which aimed to advocate for the implementation of the pension scheme in the state. She called for the establishment of a contributory pension scheme law and the creation of a Pension Bureau, asserting that the scheme would secure the future of civil servants after retirement.
Ms. Oloworaran also commended Governor Buni for his pragmatic approach to governance, as well as his efforts in implementing policies, programs, and infrastructural developments to improve the lives of Yobe State residents.
