The Borno State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting youths as pivotal agents of peace, security, and development in the state. This was confirmed by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman Tar, during a courtesy visit by a delegation from XPeace Associates, a prominent local non-governmental organization, at the Musa Usman Secretariat Complex in Maiduguri on Wednesday, 30th October 2024.

The visit, led by Project Officer Fatima Muhammad Mafi, aimed to establish a collaborative alliance with the Ministry to champion youth-centered peace and security initiatives within the region. The delegation presented a comprehensive agenda prioritizing the advancement of the Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS) Agenda, an initiative aligned with United Nations Security Council Resolution 250. XPeace Associates also outlined plans to conduct an extensive study assessing public awareness of youth peace and security policies and emphasized tailoring strategies to address the unique social and cultural landscape of Borno State.

In response, Prof. Tar emphasized Governor Zulum’s steadfast support for peacebuilding in Borno State and assured the XPeace delegates that the government’s programs would target youths not only as stakeholders but also as promoters of peace, security, and development. He commended the NGO’s dynamic composition and progressive vision, highlighting the Ministry’s openness to collaborative efforts that align with state objectives for sustained peace and security.

Professor Tar requested a formal proposal from XPeace, underscoring the Ministry’s commitment to nurturing partnerships that benefit the youth and the broader Borno community.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Permanent Secretary Modu Alhaji Mustapha and Director of Administration and Supply Babagana Mustapha, reflecting the Ministry’s collective dedication to advancing youth-driven peace and security initiatives across the state.r
