Governor Zulum Commends Military for Defeating Boko Haram in Kukawa

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has lauded the Nigerian military for their successful defense of Kukawa town against a significant Boko Haram offensive. This commendation followed a comprehensive briefing he received on the operation.
In a statement issued by Prof. Usman Tar, fspsp, Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Information and Internal Security, Borno State, it was revealed that the insurgents, riding motorcycles and armed with assault rifles and RPGs, launched an attack from the Gudumbali axis, crossing defensive trenches with the intention of overtaking Kukawa township. However, troops from the 19 Brigade Cross Kauwa and the 403 Amphibious Brigade Baga, supported by close air support from the Nigerian Air Force, repelled the assault with decisive force.
Acting on actionable intelligence, the troops mobilized swiftly, inflicting substantial losses on the insurgents. Interim assessments indicate that many terrorists were neutralized, and a significant number of their motorcycles and vehicles were seized.
Despite the victory, the operation was not without casualties. Two Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) personnel sustained injuries, four Nigerian Army soldiers lost their lives, and a civilian, Masa Mallam Abba Zaraye, was tragically struck by a stray bullet.
In his statement, Governor Zulum praised the gallant efforts of the Nigerian Armed Forces and expressed gratitude to the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their strategic support. He extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen and those injured.
Governor Zulum also urged the military to remain vigilant and adhere to the rules of engagement in asymmetric warfare, cautioning against complacency following this success. He emphasized the importance of being prepared for potential retaliatory attacks from insurgents.
In closing, Governor Zulum called on citizens to continue supporting the military with actionable intelligence to combat collective threats effectively.
