Maiduguri Monday Market reopens after fire, Zulum grants rent waiver for traders

The Executive Governor of Borno state, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum mni fnse, officially reopened the Maiduguri Monday market on October 23, after it was burnt down on March 18, 2023. The state government had set up a committee led by Engr. Zarami Dungus to rebuild the market.
Governor Zulum commended the committee for their excellent work in the market. He said that the market had been restored and that about 9000 traders would benefit from it.
He also said that the committee had suggested the remodeling of the market to reduce congestion. As a result, 2666 new shops were constructed.
He further said that about 2000 traders who did not get a shop in the market would receive N300,000 each from the state government. Additionally, 185 traders who had permanent structures in their shops would receive N1 million each. Moreover, 640 squatters would receive N100,000 each.
The Governor announced that the state government would provide about N800 million for those who did not get a shop allocation in the market and that they would be exempted from paying taxes for two years.
