Borno State’s Honourable Commissioner of Information and Internal Security Assumes Command – Extensive Inspection of Ministry’s Departments and Agencies per Excellence

Maiduguri, Borno State – In a determined stride towards elevating administrative efficacy and bolstering the region’s cultural legacy, Professor Usman A. Tar, the newly appointed Honourable Commissioner of Information and Internal Security in Borno State, embarked on a comprehensive tour of the Ministry’s various departments and affiliated agencies. Accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Mohammed A. Mohammed, Ministerial Secretary Abubakar Sadiq, and key Principal Staff Officers, the Commissioner’s visit, conducted on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, manifested a strategic commitment to repositioning the Ministry on multiple fronts.

The extensive tours, meticulously planned and executed, held manifold objectives. These encompassed not only a pivotal ministerial action plan’s identification but also the strategic repositioning of the Ministry and its associated agencies. Moreover, the tours served as a pronounced affirmation of the Borno State Government’s unwavering dedication to the promotion of art, culture, efficient information dissemination, and, notably, the resolute management of internal security.

Amidst this endeavour, Professor Tar, with unreserved conviction, conveyed the profound commitment of the Borno State Government, meticulously led by Professor Babagana Umara Zulum. The collective vision revolves around not just resuscitating the Ministry and its encompassing agencies but ensuring their seamless and impactful service delivery. Professor Tar underscored the historical significance of Borno, heralded as the epicenter of art and culture, and historically christened the “Home of Peace,” echoing the government’s unyielding determination to perpetuate these revered legacies.

The perceptive tour took the Commissioner and his delegation to a constellation of pivotal institutions within the Ministry’s purview. These included the Borno Radio and Television (BRTV), the Borno State Council of Art and Culture, the Borno State Fire Service, and the Government Printing Press in Maiduguri.

At the heart of the BRTV premises, the Honourable Commissioner was warmly received by Alhaji Umar Mohammed (June12), the General Manager, alongside a dedicated assembly of station personnel. A focal point of this visit involved the formal inauguration of a training programme, meticulously orchestrated by BBC media action, aimed at enhancing the skills and expertise of the station’s staff.

Expanding on his vision, Professor Tar artfully emphasised the Borno State Government’s steadfast commitment to ushering television and radio stations into a new era of modernisation. The Commissioner astutely underscored the transformative potential of news spaces in reshaping narratives, emphasising the government’s dire need for independent information dissemination channels to effectively educate and enlighten the public. In an unequivocal assertion, Professor Tar delineated the longstanding need for upgrades in both television and radio stations, attributing this to the challenges posed by modernisation and digitalisation. His sentiments resonated deeply, further accentuating the urgency of aligning these facilities to seamlessly communicate the government’s goals and aspirations.

Addressing the station’s management, Professor Tar stressed prudent resource utilisation to fulfill their designated functions, ensuring collaborative efforts to eliminate programming gaps. Underpinning these endeavours is the Borno State Government’s unwavering commitment to an operational landscape characterised by seamless functionality.

Notably, at the Borno State Council of Art and Culture, Professor Tar expressed his reservations regarding existing office structures. With unswerving resolve, he urged immediate action, requesting the Executive Secretary to swiftly submit necessary requests to the Ministry. This resolute insistence on conducive work environments stems from Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s unwavering dedication to establishing optimal, efficient workspaces within the state public sector.
