In a recent development, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is preparing to reopen its orientation camp in Borno, a camp that has been inactive for nearly ten years due to the lingering threat of the Boko Haram insurgency.
During a recent visit by Vice President Kashim Shettima to Shehu Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al’amin Elkanemi, the Shehu of Borno, a heartfelt plea was made to the federal government to reinstate operations at the camp.
It was learned that the Shehu emphasized that the region has experienced a notable improvement in overall security, noting that even areas like Katsina State, where the Borno camp is located, are grappling with similar security challenges.
In response to the plea, Vice President Shettima gave assurances that the camp would indeed be reopened.
Notably, the NYSC will not be using the previous camp, which had been repurposed to host internally displaced persons.
Kanempresa gathered that the Arabic Teacher’s Village in Maiduguri has been designated as the new camp location.
