Women and girls in Yobe state have received training and empowerment on agribusiness from UN -women, Sasakawa Africa Association and Yobe State Agricultural Development Programme (YOSADP). The initiative, funded by the Japanese government, aims to enhance the economic security and resilience of rural women in the face of climate change.
The training was held on Saturday at the YOSADP office in Damaturu, where the participants learned how to extract groundnut oil, operate wet grinding machines, and manage agribusinesses. They also received small ruminant animals such as goats, along with feed and medication.
The programme coordinator, Mallam Idriss Garko, said that 19 women groups were selected for the programme, 10 from Damaturu and 9 from Gashua. The groups were divided into four categories: small ruminants, grinding machines, oil extraction machines, and dry season irrigated rice.
“The programme is to support vulnerable women and adolescent girls to build climate-resilient livelihoods and enterprises to promote their economic recovery and self-reliance,” he said.
