The Centre for Fiscal Transparency and Integrity Watch (CeFTIW) has announced the results of its 2023 Transparency and Integrity Index, which ranks the 36 states of Nigeria based on their performance in various aspects of good governance. Yobe State has secured the 19th position in the Index, which was released in partnership with the MacArthur Foundation.
The Index measures the degree of transparency and integrity of public institutions by using data from official websites of state governments and federal MDAs. The data covers five variables: Website Integrity, Fiscal Transparency, Open Procurement, Anti-Corruption, Human Resources and Inclusion, Citizens Engagement, and Local Government Transparency.
Yobe State scored 45.27 in Fiscal Transparency, 61.07 in Local Government Transparency, 66.67 in Citizens Engagement, 75.00 in Procurement, and 58.33 in Website Integrity. These scores reflect the state’s commitment to accountability, probity, and service delivery to the people.
The state government attributed its success to the reforms initiated by the Buni administration, which have resulted in positive outcomes for the state’s development. Governor Buni also praised the people and the civil servants for their support and dedication to the government’s policies and programmes.
The CeFTIW, a reputable independent non-governmental organization, aims to promote transparency, monitor public sector expenditure, and strengthen the integrity mechanisms of public institutions. The Index is a valuable tool to assess the fiscal status of the states and to encourage them to improve their governance practices.
Governor Buni expressed his determination to run an open government and to do more for the betterment of the state.
