Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, along with Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa, has been appointed as a principal speaker at an upcoming security conference in Qatar.

According to Daily Trust, this event, set to take place in Doha in December, marks the 18th edition of the Africa Security Watch Awards and Conference. The conference will also honor exceptional security personnel from the Nigerian military and various security agencies.

During a press briefing on Monday, Patrick Agbambu, the International Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of Africa Security Watch, announced that the theme for this year’s conference is “Developing Modules for People-Centric Governance towards Enhancement of Peace and Security.”Agbambu noted that Governor Zulum will serve as the keynote speaker, while General Musa will discuss “The Nexus between Citizens’ Socio-economic Development and National Defence.”He emphasized that the theme was intentionally selected to address the pressing challenges faced by the continent and to foster meaningful discussions aimed at achieving a more peaceful and secure Africa.Agbambu remarked, “The primary duty of any government or leadership is to safeguard the safety, security, and welfare of its citizens. Responsive and people-centered governance is essential for societal flourishing, where policies are designed with the populace in mind to ensure peace, stability, and security for everyone.”

He lamented that Africa continues to grapple with significant security issues, with over 70% of the continent experiencing various forms of insecurity. This situation hampers development, instills fear, and leaves many citizens trapped in poverty.Within this framework, he explained that the theme for the 18th Africa Security Watch Awards & Conference was chosen to focus on “Developing Modules for People-Centric Governance towards the Enhancement of Peace and Security in Africa.”

The conference aims to provide practical solutions to Africa’s security challenges through a selection of distinguished keynote speakers, lead paper presenters, and panelists from across the continent and beyond.“These respected individuals will tackle critical issues vital for shaping a secure future for Africa,” he concluded.
