The Federal Government has announced plans to establish a National Youth Development Bank and a Youth Data Bank to support young Nigerians. President Bola Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, made the announcement at the Stakeholders Roundtable on Northern Youth Development in Abuja.
The banks will provide financial and informational support to youth, as part of the administration’s broader strategy to drive economic transformation through youth empowerment.
President Tinubu emphasized that the development of Northern Nigeria is crucial to Nigeria’s overall prosperity, noting that the region’s challenges, such as a high number of out-of-school children, must be addressed urgently. He highlighted several youth-focused initiatives under his administration.
Tinubu also stressed the importance of education in youth development, with the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, echoing similar sentiments. The Sultan called for continuous dialogue with young people and emphasized that education is the foundation of national development. He urged more investment in educating the youth to ensure Nigeria’s future prosperity.
The President concluded by urging Nigerian youth to recognize their role as active participants in shaping the country’s future. He reassured them that the government is committed to providing the resources and opportunities necessary to help them thrive in a competitive global environment.
