Gov. Zulum Vows To Preserve Kanuri Culture, Promote Cultural Unity in Borno

In an effort to restore the lost glory of Borno state in the post insurgency era, the Executive Governor of Borno state, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum has assured the promotion of Kanuri culture and the revival of all cultural festivals in the state with a view to strengthening unity across the state.

During the inauguration of the Borno State branch of the Kufutilo Kanuri Development Association, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, represented by Prof. Usman Tar, the Commissioner of Information and Internal Security, reaffirmed commitment to revitalizing Borno’s cultural heritage and fostering unity within the state.

Kanempress reported that the Kufutilo Kanuri Development Association, an organization dedicated to the global promotion of Kanuri culture and language, was celebrated at the event.

On the other hand, Prof. Tar emphasized that Governor Zulum, recognized as the Chief Ambassador of Kanuri Culture, is dedicated to this cultural revival.

Prof. Tar also revealed plans for a significant Cultural Summit, collaboratively organized with the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Office for the Coordination of Sustainable Development Goals on Social Reorientation Programmes.

Governor Zulum, in addition, acknowledged the efforts of the Kanem Cultural and Development Foundation in organizing a global summit in Maiduguri, which brings together Kanuri communities from home and abroad to celebrate Kanuri language, culture.

Distinguished guests at the event included His Eminence, the Shehu of Borno, Dr. Abubakar Ibn Garbai (represented by Alh. Ibrahim Wadaima, District Head of Bolori) and the Chief Imam of Borno, Imam Zanna Laisu.

Other notable attendees included Dr. Bulama Mali Gubio, Alhaji Mohammed Adam, Prof. Khalifa Dikwa, Dr. Hassan Boguma (Zanna Boguma of Borno), as well as representatives of the Kanuri diaspora and various figures from academia, civil society, and the business community.

The event, which took place at Babagana Wakil Memorial School in Maiduguri on October 8th, 2023, was marked by the vibrant display of Kanuri cultural artifacts and traditional costumes, reflecting the rich heritage rooted in Islamic civilization.
