Jaws Drop as Red Chamber Shares 218M for Holiday

Each serving senator received N2 million allowance before a seven-week holiday.
This payment, totalling N218 million for all 109 senators, raised concerns due to its illegality according to the approved remuneration package.
The allowance was speculated to come from a portion of the N70 billion allocated in the amended 2022 supplementary budget.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s announcement of the allowance sparked anger among Nigerians, given the recent removal of petroleum subsidy and ongoing economic challenges.
It was gathered that this isn’t the first time Akpabio made a controversial statement, as he previously trivialized the phrase “Let The Poor Breathe,” which is commonly used to highlight the hardships faced by Nigerians.
