The Yobe State House of Assembly has approved a budget of N320.7 billion for the year 2025. This figure is a slight decrease of N15 million from the initial N320.8 billion proposed by Governor Mai Mala Buni CON for both recurrent and capital expenditures.

In a statement issued by Yusuf Ali, Senior Special Assistant for Digital and Strategic Communications, the budget was passed after the adoption of the report from the standing committee on finance and appropriation during a plenary session held on Wednesday.

Presenting the committee’s report, Chairman Hon. Buba Ibrahim Kalallawa explained that extensive budget defense sessions with various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) led to minor adjustments, resulting in a more realistic budget estimate. The approved budget allocates over N144 billion (44%) to recurrent expenditures and over N176 billion (55%) to capital expenditures.

Additionally, Hon. Kalallawa highlighted that 15.1% of the budget has been allocated to the health sector to enhance healthcare service delivery in the state. He also called on internally generating revenue agencies to ensure proper remittance of revenue to enable the state government to finance the 2025 budget effectively, thereby delivering more dividends of democracy to the people of Yobe State.

Presiding over the session, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Chiroma Buba Mashio, commended the finance and appropriation committee and other members for their contributions, which facilitated the swift passage of the 2025 budget.
