BOSEPA, SEMA, others joint for collaborative sanitation in Borno

The General Manager of Borno State Environmental Protection Agency (BOSEPA Alhaji Abubakar Sulaiman along with the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Environment Modu Abadam recently participated in the monthly sanitation exercise in the state.
Together they visited various areas in Maiduguri and its surroundings to enforce the exercise and expressed satisfaction with the turnout. They urged the residents of Maiduguri to continue supporting and cooperating with the government in maintaining a healthy clean and conducive environment.
Abadam emphasized that the government will steadfastly assist the people of Maiduguri in ensuring a clean and habitable city. He stated that priority will be given to the demolition and removal of illegal structures especially those obstructing waterways in order to establish a clean and healthy environment.
During the inspection of the sanitation exercise the permanent secretary commended the efforts of the sanitation vanguards and volunteers who actively participated in the cleanup. The official also announced that the government is currently making plans to construct additional dumping centers within the city to further improve waste management.
Furthermore the general manager emphasized the importance of compliance with the law during the monthly sanitation exercise. Specifically shop owners and petty business owners were urged to adhere to the regulations by closing their businesses for three hours from 7am to 10:00am during the exercise. It was made clear that failure to comply with this requirement could result in prosecution especially for women petty traders who may be found disobeying the law.
The participants of the inspection included officials from agencies such as the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA and the General Manager of the Borno State Traffic Management Agency (BOTMA).
