Potiskum Specialist Hospital Commends Senator Bomai for N1M Donation to Combat Diphtheria Outbreak

In response to the severe diphtheria disease that has tragically claimed many innocent lives, especially children, in Potiskum and its environs, the Management of Potiskum Specialist Hospital has commended Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai, who represents Yobe South, for a recent donation of N1 million to the Hospital.

The Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr. Ayuba Zakar, who disclosed the hospital’s appreciation to Kanempress, highlighted the impact of Bomai’s compassion and support during their pressing time.

He stated, “The funds facilitated the acquisition of much-needed medication, instilling hope and reassurance in the hearts of healthcare professionals and patients alike.

We are fully cognizant of Senator Bomai’s commitment to serving and safeguarding the interests of his constituents. His recent contribution to the victims of the diphtheria outbreak exemplifies his dedication to the health and welfare of the people.

I assure the public that we are diligently working to contain the diphtheria outbreak in Potiskum. The donation has been immediately utilized to purchase drugs and other necessary facilities to aid the patients in their recovery,” Ayuba concluded.

Bukar Anguwa, Chief Nursing Officer of the medical facility, emphasized the improvements witnessed since receiving the funds, underlining that it will bolster the hospital’s efforts in containing the outbreak.

Also, the Head of Admin, Abubakar Adamu Baba, who received the donation, acknowledged that Senator Ibrahim has been a steadfast supporter of the hospital, having contributed to its welfare even before entering politics.

On his part, Bukar Anguwa, Chief Nursing Officer, stressed the improvements witnessed since receiving Senator Bomai’s invaluable assistance, adding that it will be instrumental in containing the epidemic.

While representing Senator Bomai, Ibrahim Mohammed (Ibbiyo) reaffirmed that the senator’s effort to contribute to society’s development has always remained a top priority.

Similarly, the Hospital commends the Governor of Yobe State, Hon. Mai-Mala Buni, for his tireless efforts in providing support during this challenging time.

In addition to Senator Bomai’s contribution, the Hospital also expressed its appreciation to the World Health Organization, Actions against Hunger, and UNICEF for their overwhelming contributions to tackling the diphtheria outbreak in Yobe State and its surroundings.

It also acknowledges the support received from Dr. Lawan Gana, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Buni on Health, as well as Dr. Musa Baba, Executive Secretary of the Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Umar Chiroma, Director of Primary Health Care, and the Yobe State epidemiologist.

It could be recalled that Kanempress previously reported that the suspected diphtheria outbreak in Yobe State has resulted in the deaths of at least 30 children, with an additional 42 hospitalized at the isolation centre of Potiskum Specialist Hospital, while it has severely affected areas such as Tandari, Misau Road, Sabuwar Sakateriya, Arikime, Ramin Kasa, Boriya, Igwanda, and Texaco quarters.
